Obverse description The obverse features the right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, set within a circular raised medallion at the centre of an elaborately sculpted crown forming the bow of a large skeleton key. The crown is rendered in high relief with arched flutes adorned with rows of beads, a rope-twist fillet at its base, and a central finial above, all finished in antiqued silver. The circular medallion bears the legend ELIZABETH II to the left and 5 DOLLARS / COOK ISLANDS to the right, with the engraver's initials IRB below the portrait and the date 2023 in the exergue. The key shank descends from the crown bow and is decorated near the shoulder with a foliate and fleur-de-lis ornamental motif in low relief.

Additional information

Cook Islands has issued commemorative silver dollars under licensing arrangements for decades, with the "Key to my Kingdom" falling into a broad category of themed fantasy issues produced primarily for the collector market rather than any circulation purpose. These pieces are struck by external minting partners — typically European facilities — under Cook Islands' authority, which has made the territory one of the most prolific small-nation issuers in modern numismatics.

The posthumous attribution places this issue after September 2022. Cook Islands moved quickly to produce Elizabeth II memorial and tribute coinage in the months following her death, as did dozens of issuing authorities worldwide.
