Cook Islands built a substantial portion of its late-2000s mint revenue on licensed religious and fine-art themed silver issues, many produced by the Austrian Mint and distributed through European coin marketing firms. The Pietà series embedded Swarovski crystals — an Austrian product — into the field, a pairing that was commercially calculated rather than artistically incidental. Both companies are headquartered within a few hundred kilometers of each other.
These sell primarily to collector-consumers rather than numismatists. Secondary market premiums track the novelty segment, not silver melt.
