The right panel displays an excerpt from the opening chapter of Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace, headed 'War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy. BOOK ONE: 1805 CHAPTER I', with decorative monogram devices overlaying the text, and a three-dimensional relief of three stacked volumes lettered WAR AND PEACE I, II, and III in the lower portion. The commemorative date range 1812-2012 appears in the exergue of the right panel, marking the bicentenary of the events depicted in the novel.
