| 裏面の説明 | The reverse features a gilt high-relief depiction of the twin-towered Frauenkirche of Munich occupying the right portion of the field, with the papal coat of arms of Benedict XVI rendered in gilt relief at centre. To the left, five inset baguette-cut Swarovski crystals — alternating blue and clear — are each paired with the name of a Bavarian city visited during the papal journey: MÜNCHEN, ALTÖTTING, REGENSBURG, MARKTL, and FREISING. The Latin motto QUI CREDIT, NUMQUAM EST SOLUM. arcs along the upper rim, and the inscription BENEDICTUS PP. XVI IN BAVARIAM MMVI curves along the lower rim. |

Pope Benedict XVI visited his Bavarian homeland in September 2006 — his first papal trip to Germany and the first time he had returned to the region where he grew up, studied, and served as Archbishop of Munich. The visit carried obvious personal weight for a pontiff who had taken the throne only the previous year. Cook Islands issued commemorative coinage for the event under licensing arrangements that were, by 2006, a well-established revenue mechanism for the island's government.
The Swarovski crystal inclusion places this firmly in the collectibles-over-currency category that dominated Pacific island commemorative programs of the period.
