Our Lady of Montserrat — the Black Madonna — is a Romanesque wooden sculpture housed in the Benedictine monastery of Santa Maria de Montserrat in Catalonia, venerated since at least the 12th century. Cook Islands has issued dozens of religious and cultural icons in this crystal-inset silver format, contracting through the Austrian Mint and Pacific coin distributors primarily for the collector market. None of these pieces were intended to circulate. The Swarovski elements are set post-striking under license.
