Tuvalu's commemorative program in the 1990s leaned heavily on Commonwealth milestones with minimal connection to the island nation itself, and this piece is a clear example. The opening of Australia's Parliament House in Canberra in 1927 — the event being commemorated — marked the transfer of federal parliamentary functions from Melbourne, where they had operated since Federation in 1901. Prime Minister Stanley Bruce presided over the ceremony, with the Duke of York (later George VI) in attendance.
