Additional information

Solomon Islands has issued commemorative silver under its own authority since independence in 1978, and by the 2010s had become a prolific licensor of themed issues produced almost entirely for the collector market — the country itself having no meaningful domestic coin circulation at that denomination. This piece, dated 2015 for the Rio 2016 Games, was almost certainly struck by a European contract mint and sold through wholesale numismatic distributors well before the Games opened.
