正面描述 Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, portrayed at approximately 37 years of age, wearing a diamond tiara and light drapery at the shoulder. The portrait, modelled by Patrick Brindley after Arnold Machin's design, is rendered in high relief against a flat field. The legend ELIZABETH II flanks the upper portion of the field, with CANADA and the date 1976 completing the inscription along the lower arc.

背面描述 Central depiction of the Olympic flame rising from a stylised torch bowl, rendered in high relief at the centre of the field. Radiating from behind the flame are multiple parallel diagonal lines representing the dynamic energy of the Games, converging toward the lower field. To the upper left, the Montreal 1976 Olympic Games logo — five interlocking rings surmounted by the stylised 'M' emblem — appears in relief. The bilingual legend OLYMPIADE XXI OLYMPIAD and MONTREAL 1976 are inscribed in the upper field, with the denomination 5 DOLLARS appearing along the lower rim.

附加信息

One of 28 silver coins issued across seven series between 1973 and 1976 to fund the Montreal Games, this piece was part of a financing scheme that ultimately fell short — the Olympics left Quebec with a debt that took until 2006 to retire. The Royal Canadian Mint struck both proof and uncirculated finishes, distinguished in the catalog as RC-1428a and RC-1428b respectively.

Montreal 1976 was the last privately-financed Summer Olympics for decades, and the coin program was central to that ambition.
