Beschrijving keerzijde A symmetrical mandala-inspired floral design rendered in green-tinted color enamel fills the coin's reverse field, featuring multiple radiating layers of stylized petals adorned with dot and teardrop motifs. At the center, a raised beaded circular bezel set with a faceted Swarovski crystal representing the October birthstone — opal — captures and refracts light. The background field is subtly engraved with a fine lace-like filigree pattern, adding depth and texture to the composition. The engraver's initials PY appear discreetly in the lower right field. No peripheral legend is present on the reverse.

Aanvullende informatie

Part of the RCM's long-running birthstone series, the October issue corresponds to tourmaline — a gemstone that replaced opal as October's official birthstone in the United States in 2002 following a revision by the American Gem Trade Association, though opal retains that designation in many other countries. The RCM has leaned consistently on Swarovski crystal elements to simulate the stone rather than setting genuine gem material, keeping production costs manageable across what is effectively a twelve-part annual collectible program.
