Obverse description Central medallion bears the fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, shown as a right-facing draped bust wearing a tiara, with the engraver's initials IRB truncated at the shoulder. The surrounding field is richly decorated in high relief with an intricate Gothic tracery pattern radiating outward in the style of a cathedral rose window, evoking the architectural ornament of Notre-Dame de Paris. In the lower portion of the field, a sculpted Pietà group is depicted in high relief, showing the Virgin Mary supporting the body of Christ flanked by two mourning angels. The dates 1163 and 1345, marking the construction period of Notre-Dame, flank the devotional scene at left and right. The arc of the central medallion bears the legend ELIZABETH II NIUE 2021, with 5 DOLLARS and Ag 999 inscribed below the effigy.
