This piece belongs to a Russian Tsars series issued by Niue under its long-standing licensing arrangement with a private mint — a revenue model that has nothing to do with Niuean monetary history and everything to do with the international collector market for large-format silver. Nicholas I ruled from 1825 to 1855, his reign defined by the suppression of the Decembrist uprising in its opening weeks and ending in the humiliation of the Crimean War, which he did not live to see conclude.
