Murrine millefiori is a Venetian glassworking technique dating to at least the 16th century, in which colored glass rods are bundled, fused, and cross-sectioned to reveal floral or geometric patterns — the name translates roughly as "thousand flowers." Embedding a hand-cut murrine slice into a struck silver coin requires the glass insert to be individually fitted after minting, making each piece fractionally unique in its patterning regardless of die consistency.
