Barbados issued this piece to mark the millennium changeover, a moment when many Caribbean central banks commissioned commemorative silver specifically to capture export collector revenue rather than domestic circulation demand. The island had been running a successful numismatic program since the early 1970s, and by 1999 these limited releases were largely pre-sold to overseas buyers before striking.
