| Obverse description | A highly detailed high-relief depiction of the Colosseum dominates the upper portion of the field, rendered in antiqued finish with fine architectural detail across its arched facade. Below the monument, a small effigy of Queen Elizabeth II faces right, after the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait, with the legends ELIZABETH II to the left and COOK ISLANDS to the right. The denomination 5 DOLLARS appears in the lower exergue. Above the Colosseum, the inscription ROMAN EMPIRE arcs along the upper rim, accompanied by a decorative star motif bearing initials.
