Lü Bu, the Han dynasty warlord whose defection from and betrayal of successive lords — Ding Yuan, Dong Zhuo, and others — made him the archetype of treachery in Chinese historical memory, is better known to modern audiences through the Romance of the Three Kingdoms and its countless game adaptations than through the Zizhi Tongjian. Niue's numismatic program has long used its sovereign issuing rights as a vehicle for pop-culture licensing, producing legal tender with no practical circulation function whatsoever.
The KM#3894 assignment places this squarely within a broader Niue fantasy series rather than any independent commemorative program.
