| Obverse description | At center, a circular raised cartouche frames the right-facing crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, after the portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley, whose initials IRB appear below the truncation. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left, 5 DOLLARS across the top, and COOK ISLANDS along the right of the cartouche border, with the date 2017 inscribed below. Surrounding the central cartouche, the entire field is covered with an elaborate, deeply struck baroque-style scrollwork and foliate acanthus relief design, extending to the coin's edge and giving the surface a dramatic three-dimensional texture. |
