| Obverse description | The obverse features the fourth effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by engraver Susan Taylor, depicting a mature, bare-headed portrait of the Queen facing right, wearing drop earrings and a necklace. The legend ELIZABETH II appears above the portrait, with the denomination 5 DOLLARS and the date 2019 inscribed in the field below. The effigy corresponds to the Dora de Pédery-Hunt portrait generation used on Canadian coinage from 1990 to 2003, though here rendered in Taylor's updated style. |

| Reverse description | The reverse, designed by Simon Ng, depicts an auspicious Chinese dragon with its sinuous body coiled into the form of the numeral eight, a symbol of good fortune in Chinese culture. At the centre of the figure-eight form, the dragon clutches a luminous pearl in one of its claws, a traditional motif symbolising wisdom and prosperity. The dragon's scales, whiskers, and claws are rendered in fine detail against a plain field. The designer's initials SN appear discreetly near the lower left foot of the dragon.
