Beschrijving voorzijde The obverse features a central medallion bearing the right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, diademed and draped, after the portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley, whose initials IRB appear below the truncation. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left, 5 DOLLARS along the top, and COOK ISLANDS along the right of the inner circle, with the date 2021 positioned in the exergue below the portrait. Surrounding the central medallion, the broader field is richly engraved with a naturalistic scene depicting birds of prey — one perched on a heavily branched nest with chicks, another in flight carrying a fish — set amid detailed renderings of oak foliage and branches, extending across the full field in high relief.

Aanvullende informatie

The Cook Islands has operated one of the world's most prolific numismatic programs since the 1970s, issuing collector coins under licensing arrangements that generate revenue for the territory while bearing denominations that are technically legal tender but never circulate domestically. This Longhorn issue belongs to that commercial framework — produced for the international bullion and novelty collector market rather than any transactional purpose.

Australian Longhorns were introduced to the continent in the early colonial period, crossbred from Texas stock imported in the late 19th century to improve drought hardiness in Queensland's interior.
