Obverse description The rectangular obverse features a circular cameo at left depicting the fourth-generation effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, as designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs above the portrait within the circular frame, with NIUE to the right and 5 DOLLARS · 2021 below. To the right of the cameo, within the plain gold field of the bar, three lines of text read SOLID GOLD, WEIGHT 2.5 g, and FINE GOLD 999.9, emphasizing the bullion purity of the piece.

Reverse description The reverse of this gold bar-shaped coin is divided into two principal design zones. On the left, a circular sunburst pattern frames a detailed high-relief depiction of a gold nugget at center, referencing the famous Klondike Gold Rush; the legend THE CENTENNIAL NUGGET arcs around the nugget within the circle, and KLONDIKE 1896 appears vertically along the left border. On the right half, a stylized rendition of the Canadian coat of arms is displayed, featuring the quartered shield with the shamrock, thistle, fleur-de-lis, and maple leaves, flanked by the inscriptions CANADA above and FIVE DOLLAR below. A small cartouche reading IN GOLD WE TRUST appears at the junction of the two design zones.

Additional information

Niue's long-running arrangement with the New Zealand Mint has produced dozens of bullion-adjacent issues aimed squarely at the commemorative collector market, and this piece fits that pattern precisely. The Klondike Gold Rush of 1896–1899 drew an estimated 100,000 prospectors to the Yukon, of whom fewer than 30,000 actually reached the goldfields — and of those, only a small fraction ever turned a profit.

The .9999 fineness places it among the purest gold issues of any sovereign-authorized program.
