John IV of Pernstein served as Supreme Chancellor of Bohemia in the early sixteenth century and presided over one of the wealthiest noble houses in Central European history — the Pernstein family's silver mining interests in Moravia made them briefly richer than the Habsburgs themselves. That fortune collapsed spectacularly within two generations through a combination of debt, mismanagement, and imperial disfavor, leaving the dynasty effectively extinct by 1631.
This issue belongs to Niue's broader Czech and Slovak historical figures program, a licensing arrangement that uses the island's sovereign mint authority to produce collector gold for the European market.
