| 背面描述 | A detailed panoramic view of the Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra (Kyiv Monastery of the Caves) fills the central field, depicting the complex's distinctive Baroque-style cathedrals, bell towers, and onion domes. Above the architectural composition, three haloed sacred figures — the Virgin Mary enthroned with the Christ Child and flanked by two saints or angels — are rendered in an iconic style reminiscent of Byzantine religious art. Stylised clouds frame the lower portion of the scene, lending a celestial atmosphere. The Cyrillic legend ДВАНАДЦЯТЬ ЧУДЕС УКРАЇНИ (Twelve Wonders of Ukraine) arcs along the upper rim, while СВЯТО-УСПЕНСЬКА КИЄВО-ПЕЧЕРСЬКА ЛАВРА (Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra) curves along the lower rim. The date 2009 appears in the lower central field. |

The Kiev-Pechersk Lavra — the Monastery of the Caves — was founded in 1051 by the monk Anthony, who first lived as a hermit in a hillside cave above the Dnieper. By the eleventh century it had become the spiritual nucleus of Kievan Rus and the burial site of saints whose preserved remains drew pilgrims from across Eastern Europe. Cook Islands issued dozens of Orthodox and Catholic sacred-site commemoratives during this period, contracting primarily through European coin wholesalers targeting the Eastern European collector market rather than any domestic audience.
