| Aanvullende informatie |
HMS Hermes was decommissioned from the Royal Navy in 1984 and sold to India, where she served as INS Viraat for another three decades — the longest-serving aircraft carrier in naval history by most reckonings. Nauru's connection to the vessel is purely commemorative; the Bank of Nauru issued a series of warship-themed coins in this period aimed squarely at the collector market rather than circulation.
Viraat was finally decommissioned by the Indian Navy in 2017, one year after this coin was struck.
