Tokelau's coinage program is administered by New Zealand, which has issued collector pieces on behalf of the territory since the early 2000s — Tokelau itself having no domestic mint capacity and a total land area under 12 square kilometers across three atolls. The "Hakula" series targets the Pacific marine wildlife endemic to the region's exclusive economic zone, which at roughly 290,000 square kilometers dwarfs the atolls themselves by every conceivable measure.
KM#90 is a New Zealand Mint product struck to bullion-adjacent specifications.
