Pobjoy Mint, based in Surrey, pioneered titanium coinage in the 1990s and remains the dominant producer of the format — the coloration here is achieved through anodization, a controlled oxidation process that varies oxide layer thickness to produce specific wavelengths of visible light rather than any applied dye or pigment.
