Niue has operated as a prolific licensing platform for commemorative silver since the 1990s, contracting designs to outside mints and selling primarily to collector markets rather than circulating any of it on the island. This sunflower piece is part of that commercial program — its nominal face value has no practical relationship to the coin's bullion or collector price.
The "1888" in the title references Vincent van Gogh's series of sunflower paintings, most of which were executed in Arles that year in preparation for Paul Gauguin's visit.
