Obverse description Right-facing crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, after the third portrait by Raphael David Maklouf, wearing a diamond tiara and pearl drop earring with a beaded necklace. The legend QUEEN ELIZABETH II arcs along the upper periphery, while the inscriptions 5OZ 999 SILVER TUVALU and the date 2009 are distributed around the lower field. The coin's mirrored proof surface is divided diagonally, creating a contrast between the polished upper field and a dark-toned lower sector. The engraver's initials RDM appear at the base of the portrait.

Additional information

Issued under Tuvalu's remarkably permissive commemorative coinage program, which has long served as a vehicle for Japanese popular culture licensing deals targeting the collector market rather than circulation. Cyborg 009, Shotaro Ishinomori's 1964 manga series, was chosen for its 45th anniversary — the franchise having outlived its creator, who died in 1998 before the series received its third anime adaptation the following year.

The 5-dollar face value is nominal fiction; no 155-gram silver coin has ever changed hands in a Funafuti market.
