Reverse description The reverse depicts a richly detailed scene from Homer's Odyssey illustrating the episode of the sorceress Circe. Circe is shown enthroned at centre, robed and regal, with attendant servants standing at her sides. In the foreground, three pigs — representing the transformed companions of Odysseus — are rendered in high relief. Two special privy marks are incorporated into the design: the Owl of Athena and a representation of an ancient Athenian silver tetradrachm coin. The legend 'THE ADVENTURES OF ODYSSEUS' arcs along the upper periphery, with 'CIRCE' inscribed prominently in the lower field.
