| Additional information |
Issued to mark the 670th anniversary of Charles University in Prague, founded by Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV in 1348 — making it the oldest university in Central Europe still in continuous operation. The institution survived the Hussite Wars, Habsburg suppression, Nazi occupation, and Communist administration without permanently closing its doors.
Niue's role here is purely jurisdictional. The coin was produced under a licensing arrangement common to the Pacific island's prolific commemorative program, with actual distribution handled through the European collector market.
