Obverse description Right-facing crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, rendered in high relief after the fourth definitive portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley, whose initials 'IRB' appear below the truncation. The legend 'COOK ISLANDS' and denomination '5 DOLLARS' are inscribed at the top of the field, while the name 'ELIZABETH II' appears in the lower legend. The coin is struck in a rectangular format with rounded corners and a polished proof finish.

Reverse description Three-quarter bust portrait of Pope John Paul II facing slightly left, vested in papal robes and mozzetta, with a gilded pectoral cross suspended from his neck. Gilded rays of light radiate diagonally across the upper field behind the portrait, enclosed within a gilded beaded inner border. Twelve Swarovski crystals are inset around the gilded outer border of the rectangular flan. The Latin inscription 'SANCTUS IOANNES PAULUS II' is engraved in the lower panel, with the date '2014' at the lower right.
