| 裏面の説明 | A powerfully rendered figure of a Native American canoeist, depicted from behind with musculature in high relief, wearing a feathered headdress and traditional beaded garments, in the act of paddling. The Montreal 1976 Olympic logo — comprising the five interlocked rings surmounted by a stylized flame — appears in the upper field to the left. Bilingual legends in the upper field read OLYMPIADE XXI OLYMPIAD, with MONTRÉAL and 1976 at the left. The denomination 5 DOLLARS is inscribed along the lower rim. |

Issued as part of Canada's 1976 Montreal Olympics series, this coin belongs to the third of seven series released between 1973 and 1976 — one of the most ambitious Olympic coin programs ever undertaken, ultimately generating over $250 million CAD in revenue intended to offset Games infrastructure costs. The Montreal organizing committee was chronically underfunded, and these silver issues were a direct policy response to that shortfall.
The two varieties catalogued under RC-1410a and RC-1410b reflect a known distinction between the serif and sans-serif typeface used on the waterline inscription — a detail introduced mid-production and consistent across the broader Olympic series.
