Reverse description The reverse reproduces a richly detailed seascape vignette adapted from the Canadian Bank of Commerce 20-dollar bank note of 1888, engraved by Matthew Bowen. The central composition depicts an oceanic scene with vessels and maritime imagery faithfully rendered in fine relief, evoking the intaglio engraving style of nineteenth-century banknote artistry. The design commemorates the 125th anniversary of the issuance of that historic Canadian Bank of Commerce note. The face value and issuing country appear in the legend, with 5 DOLLARS and CANADA flanking the date 2013 positioned within the peripheral lettering.
