The Cayman Islands Monetary Authority replaced the Currency Board in 1997, and the C Series notes that followed reflected that institutional change at the administrative level without dramatically altering the established De La Rue designs. Two-signature issues typically correspond to a transition in the Authority's senior personnel — in this case, one of the signatures belongs to the CIMA Managing Director, the other to the Financial Secretary of the Cayman Islands government, a dual-sign arrangement required under the Monetary Authority Law.
The Cayman dollar has been pegged to the US dollar at a fixed rate of CI$1 to US$1.20 since 1974 — one of the most consistently maintained fixed rates in the Caribbean.
