Reverse description A fully detailed, naturalistic depiction of a mature North American bison (Bison bison) in mid-stride, occupying the central field of the coin in high relief against a frosted background suggestive of open prairie. The animal faces right, its massive head lowered, with fine engraving capturing the thick fur of the shoulders and hindquarters. A smaller inset vignette of a bison's head appears in the lower left field, framed by decorative linear borders. The legend CANADA arcs along the upper periphery, while 5 DOLLARS is inscribed along the lower border; the date 2014 appears to the right of the central device, and the engraver's initials TT are visible in the lower central field.
