Kladrubers are one of the oldest coach horse breeds in existence, developed at the Imperial Stud at Kladruby nad Labem in Bohemia from the late sixteenth century primarily to pull the ceremonial carriages of the Habsburg court. The Czech state stud at Kladruby has been continuously operational for over four centuries — a fact recognized when UNESCO inscribed the traditional breeding practices there onto its Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2019.
