The Battle of Salamis in 480 BC was a decisive Greek naval victory over the Persian fleet of Xerxes I, won largely through the strategic deception of Themistocles, who lured the Persians into the narrow strait where their numerical advantage became a liability. Ancient sources — Herodotus and Aeschylus, who reportedly fought there himself — put Persian losses at around 200 triremes.
