| Obverse description | The obverse features a high-relief inset panel bearing the fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, as modelled by Ian Rank-Broadley, showing a right-facing draped bust of the Queen wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. The portrait occupies an elevated circular cartouche set against the broader coin field, which depicts in exquisite deep relief the grand staircase of a monumental Baroque palace interior, complete with ornate colonnades, decorative balustrades, sculptural figural groups, and elaborate candelabra. The legend ELIZABETH II and the denomination 5 DOLLARS are inscribed around the portrait panel, with the issuer name NIUE appearing below. The engraver's initials IRB appear below the Queen's truncation, and the date 2016 and the fineness notation Ag 999 mw are also present in the legend. The antique finish treatment lends dramatic contrast to the deeply sculpted architectural elements. |
