This issue belongs to the Birds of Prey series produced by the Royal Canadian Mint for the bullion and collector market — a run that leaned heavily on American wildlife to court U.S. buyers. The bald eagle, as a nationally protected symbol south of the border since the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act of 1940, made for an obvious commercial choice.
The four-year production window reflects sustained secondary market demand rather than any single mintage decision. Struck in .9999 fine silver — a purity standard the RCM adopted aggressively in the 2000s to differentiate its products from the .999 fine issues of competing mints.
