Obverse description The obverse displays the full coat of arms of Barbados in high relief against a mirror-polished field. The shield, depicting a fig tree with three pride-of-Barbados flowers, is supported on the left by a dolphin fish and on the right by a pelican; above the shield rests a helmet and crest featuring an armoured fist grasping two crossed pieces of sugarcane. A ribbon below the shield bears the national motto 'PRIDE AND INDUSTRY' in raised letters. The legend 'BARBADOS' arcs along the upper periphery, with the date '1996' inscribed in the lower field.
