| Reverse description | Central field features a full-color reproduction of a classical painting depicting the Archangel Gabriel, shown as a youthful winged figure in a flowing blue robe, arms outstretched and in dynamic forward motion against a luminous golden and dark background. Flanking the colored image in the lower portion of the field are two large, finely detailed raised silver wings extending to either side. The legend 'ARCHANGEL - GABRIEL' arcs along the upper rim in bold lettering, and the denomination '5 DOLLARS' is inscribed in the lower exergue. |

| Additional information |
Part of a broader wave of Pacific island legal tender issues produced almost entirely for the collector market, this coin was struck by a European mint on commission — the Solomon Islands contributing little beyond licensing rights to use their name. By 2011, dozens of small sovereign states had entered similar arrangements, monetizing their issuing authority to fund government budgets that actual circulation coinage could never support.
