| Beschrijving voorzijde | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II after the portrait by Susanna Blunt, depicting the Queen with a pearl necklace and modest attire, her hair styled in a characteristic coiffure. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left periphery and D·G· REGINA along the right, all rendered in raised Latin lettering within a beaded border. The portrait is uncrowned and naturalistic in treatment, consistent with the fourth definitive effigy used on Canadian coinage from 2003 onward. The designer's initials SB appear discreetly below the truncation of the bust. The mirror-like proof fields provide a sharp contrast to the frosted relief of the portrait. |

| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse features a bold central composition dominated by a tall oil derrick rising against a panoramic Albertan landscape, with rolling foothills and the Rocky Mountains rendered in the background beneath a rising or setting sun. In the lower foreground, three cattle graze among the prairie, flanked by sprigs of wheat on the left and a wild rose bloom — Alberta's provincial flower — at the bottom centre, evoking the province's agricultural heritage. The denomination $5 appears to the left of the derrick, while the inscriptions CANADA arc along the upper legend and ALBERTA / 1905–2005 are positioned to the right of the tower, commemorating the centennial of Alberta's entry into Confederation. The engraver's initials MG appear subtly in the mid-right field. The design synthesizes Alberta's key economic and natural symbols in a highly detailed, frosted proof relief. |
