This issue commemorates the Act of Canonical Communion signed in 2007 by the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad and the Moscow Patriarchate, ending an 80-year schism that began when émigré clergy refused to subordinate themselves to a church operating under Soviet authority. The reunification ceremony took place in Christ the Saviour Cathedral in Moscow on May 17th of that year — the feast day of the Holy Fathers of the Seven Ecumenical Councils, a date chosen with deliberate theological weight.
