The Ninth Crusade of 1271–72 is often treated as a postscript — Edward of England arrived in the Holy Land with a force too small to achieve anything decisive, negotiated a ten-year truce with the Mamluk Sultan Baybars, and left before the siege of Acre concluded. It is conventionally called the last major Crusade to the Levant, though that designation depends heavily on how one defines the term.
Cook Islands has issued commemoratives under this crusade-themed series through the New Zealand firm CIT, which handles design and distribution. The actual striking was almost certainly contracted to a European mint.
