The Great White Shark issue is part of the Royal Australian Mint's ongoing push into the collector bullion market, where the one-troy-ounce silver format has become the dominant vehicle for themed releases. Australia's great white population is concentrated along the southern coastline, and the species has been protected under federal law since 1999 — one of the first nations to legislate such protections.
The sixth portrait of Elizabeth II, by sculptor Jody Clark, was introduced across Commonwealth mints from 2015 onward. It was the last official effigy approved before her death in September 2022, making coins struck in her final regnal year transitional pieces by default.
