Beschrijving keerzijde The convex reverse presents a highly detailed, realistically rendered depiction of the Moon in high relief, occupying the central domed field with a darkened, textured surface evoking the lunar landscape of craters, maria, and highlands. Surrounding the central lunar globe, the field is decorated with engraved motifs including stars, comets, and planetary bodies consistent with the series theme. The circular legend along the upper rim reads THE EARTH AND BEYOND - THE MOON, flanked by the date 2019, while the denomination FIVE DOLLARS appears in the lower field. The combination of the convex form and the intricately struck lunar surface creates a striking three-dimensional effect characteristic of the Royal Australian Mint's domed coin series.

Aanvullende informatie

Issued to mark the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing, this coin was part of a broader wave of commemoratives released globally in 2019 by mints competing for the same collector market. The Royal Australian Mint's entry distinguished itself through its domed planchet — a concave reverse designed to evoke the lunar surface's curvature, a technique the RAM had been refining across several earlier domed issues in the mid-2010s.

Australia's connection to the mission is often understated: the Honeysuckle Creek tracking station in the Australian Capital Territory relayed the first television images of the moonwalk to a global audience.
