| 背面描述 | The reverse features a dual-city composition juxtaposing the ancient Greek Parthenon with the Sydney Opera House, symbolising the transition of the Olympic Games from Sydney 2000 to Athens 2004. At the centre, an oval shield bears a colour holographic rendition of the Australian national flag incorporating the five Olympic rings, adding a striking iridescent element to the design. The legend SYDNEY TO ATHENS appears above, with the date range 2000-2004 positioned in the lower field. |

Issued to mark Australia's participation in the Athens 2004 Olympics — the first Summer Games held in Greece since the modern revival in 1896 — this coin was part of a broader Royal Australian Mint program celebrating the "Sydney to Athens" handover of the Olympic flame. Australia's strong sporting identity with the Games was sharpened by its host role in Sydney 2000, making the Athens edition a natural commemorative subject for the Mint. The hologram element was incorporated as an anti-counterfeiting measure and visual novelty, a technique the RAM had been refining through the early 2000s across several collector series.
