Obverse description Fourth portrait effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, rendered by engraver Susanna Blunt, depicting the Queen bare-headed with a necklace and earrings at approximately 77 years of age. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs above the effigy, while the denomination 5 DOLLARS and the date appear below. The field incorporates radial line security elements introduced as part of the Silver Maple Leaf's enhanced anti-counterfeiting design. The portrait is rendered in high relief against the security-patterned background field.

Additional information

The SML (Susanna Blunt Modified Likeness) designation marks a subtle but deliberate revision to the fourth portrait, introduced to address die-wear issues that had accelerated on the unmodified Blunt effigy. The radial line background and security mark — a maple leaf containing a micro-laser-engraved "SML" — were added specifically to deter the sophisticated Chinese counterfeit operation that flooded secondary markets with .999 Maple Leafs around 2014, prompting the Royal Canadian Mint to file legal action and overhaul the entire bullion series simultaneously.
