Australia hosted the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Perth in October 2011, the first time CHOGM had been held in the country since 2002. The meeting was notable for formalizing the Perth Agreement, which among other changes cleared the way for the end of male-preference primogeniture in the rules governing royal succession — a change that took effect across all sixteen Commonwealth realms simultaneously through coordinated legislation.
