| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse depicts two koalas (Phascolarctos cinereus) resting together in a naturalistic composition, rendered in fine relief against a mirror-polished field. Behind the animals, a raised outline map of the Australian continent serves as a secondary design element. The italic script legend AUSTRALIAN KOALA arcs prominently across the upper field. Along the lower rim, the inscription 2001 1/20 OZ. 9995 PLATINUM is inscribed in small roman capitals, with the Perth Mint's P mintmark visible at lower right near the inner bead border. |

The Perth Mint's platinum koala series, running from 1987, was among the first platinum bullion programs issued outside of the Soviet Palladium and South African Platinum markets to gain serious collector traction. The 1/20 oz denomination was added specifically to create an accessible entry point for platinum stacking at a time when platinum was trading above gold. By 2001, that premium had narrowed considerably, which suppressed demand for fractional issues and kept mintages on the smaller platinum fractions relatively tight.
