Additional information

Australia's gold koala bullion series launched in 1980 under the RAM before Perth Mint assumed production, eventually committing to an annually changing reverse design — a deliberate strategy to encourage year-on-year collector demand rather than relying on pure bullion buyers. The 2009 issue falls within the fourth portrait era for Elizabeth II, sculpted by Ian Rank-Broadley and adopted across Commonwealth coinage from 1998.

At one-twenty-fifth troy ounce, this is the smallest denomination in the koala weight series. Perth's .9999 fineness specification, applied consistently across this program, exceeds the .9990 standard common among competing sovereign bullion programs of the same period.
