附加信息

Jeffrey Smart died in 2013, but by 2006 he had spent decades as a self-imposed expatriate in Tuscany, painting the industrial peripheries of modern life — truck stops, overpasses, cargo containers — with a geometric stillness that divided Australian critics for years before critical consensus caught up with him. The Royal Australian Mint's Masterpieces in Silver series used his work as part of a broader effort to position Australian fine art within the commemorative coin market, a program that ran through the mid-2000s pairing the fourth portrait of Elizabeth II with reproductions of canonical Australian painters.

Smart remains one of the few Australian artists whose market value climbed sharply after this issue was struck.
